Tax records throughout the 1850s were all indicate that Daniel owned no real estate; he is listed as a tenant throughout this time period. From 1853 through 1860, the value of Daniel's horses, cattle, money at interest, stocks, occupation and all other objects subject to taxation for either the county or the state was $50. From 1853 through 1857, this led to a county tax of $0.10 and a state tax of $0.15. In 1859 he paid $0.10 to the county and $0.12 to the state, and in 1860, with the same county tax, he paid $0.13 to the state. |

He paid $0.42 to the county and $0.35 to the state, in addition to the $0.03 special tax. He owned two 'horses, mares, geldings or mules' valued at $80, and three cattle valued at $27.
1865: Daniel?s personal property is valued at $107, as it was in 1864. He paid $1.60 to the county and $0.32 to the state.
1866: Daniel is still a tenant, with personal property valued at $107. He paid a county tax of $1.07 and a state tax of $0.32. |

I, Daniel Berger, of Upper Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of life and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs while I have strength and capacity, do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made.
I bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth all my estate, real, personal, mixed or of whatever nature it may be, to possess and use it and have power with it, the same as we possessed and used it and had power with it during our joined lives, or the same as I would have power and use and possess it during my life if I should survive her.
And further I constitute and appoint my beloved wife, Elizabeth, my sole executrix of all my estate, real, personal, mixed or of whatever nature it many be, and give her power and authority to convey the same in her name to the purchaser or purchasers, if she desires to sell; to issue acknowledgements & c, in short, give her the same authority and power as executrix as I would have if I would survive her.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the eleventh day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety four.

Daniel Berger, suffering with a lung affection for several years, died. Funeral, Friday January 18. Interment at St. Michael's church cemetery. Company No. 133 P.O.S. of A., of which the deceased was a charter member and for many years its treasurer, will attend.
