Viola May Spengler, 102, formerly of Strausstown, died October 31, 2018, in Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, Pa.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey C. Spengler and Hettie Ann (Lesher) Spengler. She was born in Jefferson Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, on January 1, 1916, and lived most of her life in the Strausstown area. Viola never married and lived with her parents until their deaths. She then lived by herself in Strausstown until she moved to StoneRidge Town Centre, Myerstown, Pa., in 2011.
Viola was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy, wife of James Spangler, in 1977; her brother, Wayne, husband of Katherine Rentschler, in 2007; and her brother, Paul, husband of Betty Shearer, in 2018.
She is survived by her brother, Arthur and his wife, Vida. She had seven nieces and nephews; and twelve grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Viola attended school in Strausstown and then had various jobs in the Strausstown area and retired from the Bayer plant in Myerstown. Viola was a member of Zion Blue Mountain UCC, Strausstown, and then later Christ Evangelical Free Church, Strausstown. Viola was a very quiet person who mostly kept to herself. She will be remembered by many of the long-time residents of Strausstown.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7th at 10:30 a.m. in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St., Bernville. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Strausstown Cemetery.
