Ernest Emanuel Althouse, 101, Willow Street, Lancaster County, formerly of Hamburg and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died April 6 in his residence at the Lakeside at Willow Valley, Lancaster.
His wife, Elizabeth Righter (Plank) Althouse, died in 1995.
Born in Strausstown, he was a son of the late Adam J. and Minnie May (Burkey) Althouse.
Althouse was associated with Duquesne Light Co., Pittsburgh, from August 1926 until May 1928 when he joined Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp., Poughkeepsie.
He served in various capacities in Kingston, N.Y., and in Poughkeepsie over the years before he was appointed vice president in charge of operations in 1954.
Althouse became senior vice president in 1964. In December 1967, he was elected a board member and became company president April 2, 1968.
He served in that capacity until his retirement on April 1, 1975, when he became board vice chairman and served until his resignation from the board on Dec. 31, 1986.
Althouse was a 1922 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1926 cum laude graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
He was a former director of the Utilities Mutual Insurance Co. and of Mid-Hudson Pattern Inc.
Althouse was a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and New York.
He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, and an associate member of Zion United Church of Christ, New Providence, Lancaster County.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, N.Y. Fred F. Groff Funeral Home Inc., Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.
