TWIN FALLS - Adelaide Hope Hemingway, 93, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Twin Falls Care Center.
Adelaide was born to Bernard and Margaret Fiske on May 14, 1914, in Providence, R.I. She was a healthy 9-pound 6-ounce bundle of joy. Soon after her arrival, the family moved to West Haven, Conn., where she grew up and attended Lincoln School. After completing two years of high school, she moved on to Post Business School in Waterbury, Conn. Adelaide had soon earned her degree and was working at Woolworth and Kreger's department stores. During this time, she had met a banjo-playing customer who introduced her to the love of her life, Wilfred Curtis Hemingway. Six months later on Aug. 14, 1936, they were married and began their journey together that would last 71 years.
The family eventually moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1943. They quickly became a part of the community. As an extremely faithful member of the 20th Century Club for more than 25 years, Adelaide was the correspondence secretary responsible for sending letters and cards to sick members. Adelaide's greatest joy was raising her two children. She enjoyed crafts and baking. She was a gifted baker and would share the fruits of her labors with family, friends, and soldiers stationed over seas. You could not depart from her without having at least one cookie. Adelaide brought warmth and joy to everyone she came into contact with. She had a special way of brightening your day.
She is survived by her husband, Wilfred Curtis Hemingway; two sons, Don and Doug; daughter in-law, Sandy; and grandchildren, Brandon and Mathew.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Community Church of the Brethren, 461 Filer Ave. W. in Twin Falls. A viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at White Mortuary in Twin Falls. The family would like to thank Twin Falls Care Center for the wonderful care Adelaide received. They also suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
