John (Johannes) Emrich b. ca. 1730-31.
Indenture dated Oct. 10, 1752, shows John Adam Emerich and John Emerich bought out the other heirs of their father Johann Michael. This indenture is in AL Deed Book, Vol. 2A, p. 241, Recorder of Deeds, Berks County, Reading Pa.
According to the will, the youngest son John must be of age before a division of the property could be made. Indenture dated July 24, 1753, deeds the property by John to John Adam.
On May 2, 1778, John (listed as Hannes Emrich) took the Oath of Allegiance. The record of this Oath is in Record Book D, Vol. 1 GSP Vol. 268, page 96 of the Genealogical Society of Pa., Philadelphia, Pa. The Oath was administered by Peter Stryker.
In the History of Berks County Pa., by Montgomery, John Emrich together with his brothers Jacob and Leonhard are listed among the first taxables which assessments were believed to have been made around 1752. The three brothers are also listed as paying taxes on page 133 of Rupp's History of the County of Berks. John, Leonard, Jacob and Baltzer Emrich are listed in the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, Volume 18, which shows the register of property of the inhabitants of Berks County "For raising the supplies for the year 1779." An Indenture dated May 6, 1797 is filed in the office of the Recorder of Deeds Reading Pa., in which property is transferred from John Emrich and his wife Catrout (Gertrude) to their son Leonhard Emrick. It is believed John and Anna Gertrude continued to live with their son Leonard until their deaths.
Records of Christ Lutheran Church Stouchsburg Pa., and the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation (now Altalaha Lutheran Church of Rehrersburg, Pa.), show John Emrich and his wife Anna Gertrude Schaeffer. Dates of her birth and death are unknown. It is believed her father was Michael Schaeffer, however, no record has been located to confirm this fact.
