Leo Stefanik, 78, formerly of Roosevelt Avenue, Chicopee, died Saturday at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was a supervisor at the American Bosch Co. for more than 27 years. Born and educated in Chicopee, he was a lifelong resident and communicant of Holy Mother of The Rosary National Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army as an airplane crew chief during World War II and received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Tiger's Athletic Club of Chicopee and influential in organizing the D.A.R.A. Association's Athletic Club girls softball team, which he coached for many years. His wife, the former Mary Szot, died in 1973. He leaves a step-son, Walter Kulpa of Rutland, Vt; two daughters, Donna LaBelle of Springfield and Linda Metras of Chicopee; a brother, Emil Stefanik of Ware; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The funeral service will be Wednesday morning at Starzyk Funeral Home in Chicopee and in the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday evening.
