James A. Somers, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Merrimac Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass. He was 95 and the husband of the late Ruth (Loiselle) Somers.
He leaves his son, Jim Somers and daughter-in-law, Heidi Somers of Amesbury; his daughter, Debbie Somers of Florida; his grandchildren, James, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Angela; and many dear and close friends and relatives.
Born and raised in Amesbury and the son of Frank and Florence Somers, he was a lifelong resident of Amesbury.
Jimmy was a World War II veteran in the Philippines and served his country honorably. After the war he married Ruth Loiselle of Amesbury, his devoted and loving wife of 43 years. He spent his life working hard at the Bailey Company as a machine operator. He loved to cook and eat and spend time with family and friends in the backyard, tell stories, and laugh a lot. He was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother and husband and will be greatly missed.
A private service was held at the Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Amesbury on January 27. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you spend some time with your family and cherish the time you have with them.
