Daniel H. Unger, Fruit Farm Owner, Dies at 64
A funeral service was held yesterday for Daniel H. Unger, 64, Sixth and Essarkay Streets, Boyertown, who died Friday afternoon at home after an illness of three years.
Mr. Unger was the husband of Jennie M. (Barton) Unger. He was born in Boyertown, a son of the late George W. and Legora (Deppen) Unger.
He was a fruit grower and operated Unger's Fruit farm, Boyertown RD, for many years, retiring in 1964 because of illness.
Mr. Unger was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Boyertown, former member of Boyertown School Board and a former director of Farmer's National Bank, Boyertown.
For 19 years he was a member of the board of directors of [Pottstown] Medical Center North until retiring in 1963. He operated the Hill Crest School of Riding, Colebrookdale township, for five years.
Mr. Unger was a member or former member of the following organizations: Boyertown Lions Club, where he was a charter member and past president; Pottstown Aircraft Owners and Pilots, incorporated, Northeast River Yacht Club in Maryland, Berks-Lehigh Cooperative Fruit Growers association, where he was a former director, East Central Fruit Growers' cooperative, Maryland, the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia and the Maryland Horticultural societies and the Berks County Fruit Growers' association.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Faye, wife of Martin M. Murphy, New Berlinville; Nancy M., wife of James R. Christ, Hill Church and Audrey A., wife of Peter F. Furguson, 315 West Sixth Street, Boyertown; a sister, Laura, wife of William Parkinson, Allentown and 14 grandchildren.
Private services were held in L. W. Ott Funeral home, 111 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown, with the Rev. Dean A. Allen, pastor of Good Shepherd UCC, Boyertown, officiating. Entombment followed in Fairview Mausoleum, Boyertown.
