between 1781 and 1790 Johann Philip moved over the mountains to the Mahantongo Valley and named Klingerstown. Johann Philip took up 1000 acres of land in the present neighborhood of Klinger's Church. From this holding he donated the land for the church and the structure was named in his honor. Because he was 77 years old when the church was built his sons' names are on the deeds instead of his own. |
