Ralph Emerson Felix Jr. of Sterling passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, at his home. He was 79 years old. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Chaney-Reager with Eldon Callahan officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with graveside military rites by Sterling American Legion Post No. 20.
Ralph was born May 28, 1927, in Atchison, Kan., to Ralph E. Felix and Beulah G. (Gutzman) Felix. He graduated from high school in Atchison and went on to attend flight school to become a pilot during World War II. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 when the flight schools were discontinued and was shipped overseas. He was then stationed in Germany until the end of the war. He returned to the states and attended college, graduating from Kansas State University in 1951.
Ralph married Doris Elizabeth Hazell on Aug. 14, 1949, in Atchison. In 1952, he moved to Duncan, Okla., to take a job with Skelly Oil Co., which eventually brought him to Sterling. Rather than transfer to Tulsa, Okla., he left Skelly Oil Co. and took a job with Geo A. Henderson Co. until retirement. Ralph was the secretary for the Springdale Ditch Co. and the Farmer's Pawnee Canal for 20 years.
He was a member of the Elks Club for 49 years. He received his real estate license and joined his wife, Doris, at their business, Felix Real Estate, until 1998. Ralph enjoyed working in his yard and watching and feeding the wildlife that inhabited the area. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Jeremy.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Doris Felix of Sterling; a sister, Ginny Paradise of Huntsville, Ala.; a son, Kerry Felix and wife Kathleen of Longmont; and a grandson, Jeremy Felix of Boulder. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark Benton Felix.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Plains in care of Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, 443 S. Second St., P.O. Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751.
