Ora M. Reddy, 92, of Helena, passed away at the Cooney Home early Sunday morning, Feb. 20, 2005.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1912, to Joseph and Leonide Loiselle at the family home on Maple Street in Amsbury, Mass. She attended Sacred Heart School in Amsbury through the eighth grade. Because of her mother's death, she was needed at home and couldn't return to school. Later she worked at the Merrimac Hat Factory. On June 10, 1933, Ora married John James Reddy. Together they raised three children. John worked for the federal government and they were eventually transferred to Helena in 1957, and remained here to the end.
Ora enjoyed a variety of interests during her life: tennis, antiques, her flowers, cooking, decorating their home, rides in the country, hiking Mount Helena, grandchildren, sapphire digging, family picnics, and her friends and neighbors. A little-known fact is that she could play the harmonica. She was known for her daily two-mile walk from her home on Hauser Boulevard to the grocery store in the Lundy Center. She did this well into her 80s.
In 2001 the Cooney Home became her new residence, where she made many new friends. She always received excellent, loving care, but often said, "I want to go home." We like to think that she has.
Ora will be fondly remembered for her humor and generosity. She was always more concerned for the well-being of others than for herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband and all of her brothers and sisters: Joe, Laddie, Leo, Victor, Edgar, Lucy, Doris, Leontine, Cora and Jean.
She is survived by her son Robert Loiselle (Jan) of Fayetteville, N.C.; son John Reddy Jr. (Judy) of Helena; daughter Alice Harvey (William) of Helena; eight grandchildren: Ronald Loiselle (Ann) of Virginia; Barbara Huffman (Charlie) of North Carolina; Joseph Reddy, Michael Harvey (Lisa), David Harvey (Michelle), Paula Clinch, Karen Ferguson (Larry), and Robert Harvey (Kim), all of Helena. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren: Justin and Hannah Harvey; Tara Nordhagen; Kristin Harvey; Lauren and Ryan Clinch; Jacob, Lucas and Scott Ferguson; Bryce and Dava Harvey; Hillary, Jillian and Kevin Loiselle; Grayson and McKenzie Huffman.
Cremation has taken place and her cremated remains will be placed alongside her husband at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Retz Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
