James Gartside had various studios in Oldham at 6 Park Road (1875), 4 Wellington Street (1876), 6 Sheepwashes Lane (1879-81).

Walker Stead (c.1837 Tong Yorks.-Jul 1905 Northallerton)was a civil engineer.
Note: Gilbert & Sharp had worked on the Manchester Assizes Court in 1859 with Alfred Waterhouse (1830-1905)who was a pupil of architect Richard Lane (1795-1880), both of Quaker families.
Lane was a close friend & business partner of David Bellhouse & family who had Business & marital connections with Harland & Garside families.
Joseph Garside & Walker Stead signed a contract in 1866 for the Hindley, Blackrod, & Horwich railway branches.-Ref. Lancs. & Yorks Railway Soc. & Nat. Archives (795/572) 1866 Sept.
In 1870 (16 Sep) partnership dissolved between Joseph Garside, Walker & William Stead (aka 'Garside & Stead')-Ref. Lon. Gaz.27 Sep 1870.
Were Walker Stead & WT Stead related? William Thomas Stead's father was a Methodist Preacher.
In 1895, Joseph Garside of Dukinfield, Cheshire, filed a Patent for a textile carding machine in Massachusetts registered to Joseph Stead.
