- one of eight children of Georg Klinger, born in Pfoffen-Beerfurth in 1610 and his wife Christina. Georg was Mayor of the town in 1644.

The Klinger family may have been sword makers,?Klinge?, or his land may have been by the bell, ? Klingel?.
The Klingerstown Family can trace its ancestry to:
I. Georg Klinger Born in Pfoffen-Beerfurth in 1610 and Mayor of the town in 1644. His wife Christina bore him eight children.
II. One of his sons, Johann Georg, born May 6,1655. Married Anna Elizabeth Gottman, daughter of Philip.They had two sons and two daughters. Johann Georg died March 25, 1694 before his last child, Johannes, was born November 18, 1694.
III. Johannes married November 16, 1720, Agatha Heist, daughter of Hans Leonhart and Anna Rosina Meister Heist. Johannes died September 22, 1774, Agatha died April 10, 1780. Their four emigrating children were:
(1)Johann Peter born January 1, 1721, married to Anna Catharine Eisenhart.
IV. (2)Johann Phillip born July 11, 1723 married Anna Elizabeth
Heist a first cousin of her mother-in-law on October 22, 1747 .
(3)Alexander born June 23, 1726 married Elizabeth Geiss.
(4)Anna Barbara born May 2, 1729 married Johann Geiss
Anna Catherine born April 24, 1732 and John Adam born September 5, 1735. Both died at age three.
Johann Philip and his wife sailed for America on the Neptune. On the way Johann Philip's wife, Anna Elizabeth died. She was probably buried at sea. Johann Philip arrived at Philadelphia on September 24, 1751 along with his siblings and their spouses.
Johann Philip established a residence in Reading before the end of the year and returned to Germany. On May 21, 1754 he married Eve Elizabeth Beilstein of Brandau, at Neunkirchen, both places near Pfoffen-Beerfurth. Eve was born October 27, 1730 to Jacob and Anna Elizabeth Beilstein. Her paternal grandparents were George and Eva. Her maternal grandfather was John Martin Rettich. .
Johann Philip took his bride to America and they settled in Reading. During the Revolution, Johann Philip and brother Alexander served in Berks County Military units.
Some time between 1781 and 1790 Johann Philip moved over
the mountains to the Mahantongo Valley and named
Klingerstown. Johann Philip took up 1000 acres of land in the present neighborhood of Klinger's Church. From this holding he donated the land for the church and the structure was named in his honor. Because he was 77 years old when the church was built his sons' names are on the deeds instead of his own. Johann Philip died September 30, 1811.

1,Elizabeth, born March 10, 1756, died March 10, 1820. Married John Conrad Weiser 2 . John Philip born and died April 25, 1758
3.Christiana born May 10, 1760, died young
4. John Philip born December 11, 1765, died November 27, 1829, married Anna Marie Schneider.
5.ALEXANDER born February 17, 1767, died April 16, 1838,
6 George born May 13, 1761, died unknown, married (1) Elizabeth Brosius, (2) Charlotte Deibler.
7.Christina born June 30, 1764, died December 11, 1768 from smallpox. (( Not listed in order of birth ! - just noticed DGM))
V. Alexander Klinger married circa 1789.
Magdalena Haag, born 1770 died 1846 daughter of Johan George and Abalona Haag.
Alexander and Magdalena Haag Klinger's children were:
1,Eva Elizabeth born December 21, 1789, died unknown, married Samuel Kauffman
2.ANNA MARIA born October 9, 1791, died October 30, 1854.
3.Catherine born July 27, 1793, died January 12, 1881.
4.George A. born March 17, 1795 died September 1866, married Eva Stein 1798-1863.
5,Alexander born September 16, 1797, died July 22, 1827, drowned as he tried to cross Pine Creek caught in a whirlpool near the rocks after a thunderstorm. Married Elizabeth Schwalm (1797-1843)
6.John Jacob born July 17, 1780, died unknown.
VI. Anna Maria Klinger married Jacob Shade, Sr, born January 30, 1790, died February 18, 1871. (After Anna Maria's death Jacob married Elizabeth Reedy Bitterman.)

I finished this in 2006 and it was correct to the best of my knowledge that I had at the time from materials in my collection of books, wills, birth, baptismal, marriage and death certificates and letters. A lot of that material was lost in the arson fire at Hegins in 2009. This genealogy was done over a period of years and no computer was used. I thank my wife, Judy, for typing this from my hand printed copy.
