Alva "Sally" Jeanette Spengler Gordon Nicholson, 93, died Oct. 6, 2012. She was born on a farm near Leland, Ill. on March 24, 1919, to Calvin and Ida (Rosentreter) Spengler.
She grew up on the farm and loved baseball, taking 1st place at Illinois State as pitcher with Shabbona Girls' Softball Team.
She married S. Kenneth Gordon and had three daughters. During those years, she sold mostly Avon in the Somonauk area. After her divorce, she worked at All Steel in Aurora.
She remarried on Oct. 10, 1975 to W. Bill Nicholson. They moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz. in 1979 and opened Nicholson's TV Service and Repair. After "Nick" died in 1991, Sally returned to selling Avon where she consistently earned the President's Club awards. She also became an Ambassador with the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce for many years, which she loved. They awarded her with a Lifetime Honorary Member plaque at her party.
Sally had an outgoing personality. She was loving; very caring; and was well known for her great smile.
Sally is survived by two daughters, Joyce Davidson in New York and Barbara (Richard) Larson in Alaska; five grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Smith; her parents; a brother, Myron Spengler; and two sisters, Catherine Faltz and Beatrice Spengler.
The services took place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley. She is buried with her little sister, Beatrice, at Sandwich, Ill.
