Mary Jane (Balliet), widow of Philip Kantner, who served as State president of three organizations, died of complications at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Smith, 547 South Fourteentn street. She was aged 85 years and had been ill for more than a year.
She was chaplain of Camp No. 131, Patriotic Order of Americans, and was a bebmer of Lady Bayard Temple, Ladies of the Golden Eagle, No. 78; Woman's Relief Corps, No. 10, auxiliary to the G.A.R., and St. John's Reformed Church. Besides serving as State president of the secret orders she also served as president of the local groups at verious times, besides holding other offices during her many years as an active member.
Mrs. Kantner was a native of Tamaque and spent several years in Pottsville before coming to this city 40 years ago. She was a daughter of the late Solomon and Isabella Balliet and was the last of her immediate family. There survive three daughters, Jennie, whife of Harry J. Smith, at whose hme she passed away; Hannah E., wife of P. Quinn Roth, Red Lion, and Bella, wife of Michael Wolf, this city, and a son, John, West Reading. Funeral director, Seidel.
