- I do have a date of birth for James Weber, the father of Maude Weber. He was born on 26 March 1873 per his draft registration card for WWI in 1917. He is the son of William and Ellen Weber (or Webber) in Luzerne PA.
As for Maude, she was legally adopted in 1898 (Berks County records and a news notice in the local paper on August 31, 1898) when she was nine years old by Franz Knauf (and his wife Sophia) but I am puzzled as to where she resided between her birth in 1889 and then -- possibly she was with the Knaufs but they didn't have legal rights to her. The lack of records from the U.S. 1890 census is distressing!
Emma/Emily L. Zerbe Diehm leaves her husband Edgar Diehm and her children William and Lucile and shows up as the wife of Elmer Heckleman in Rochester NY as early as 1912, although I can find no record of a divorce from Edgar or a marriage to Elmer. They have 2 children: Elizabeth "Betty"(abt. 1914) and James "Jimmy" (abt 1916) Heckleman
After her father Edgar's death, their daughter does end up in Rochester with her mother. Lucile Diehm, the daughter of Emily ZERBE and Edgar Diehm does marry a man named Charles McHale in 1923 (per the Rochester NY marriage records) but they divorce in 1927. I believe her brother William also goes to Rochester and marries in 1916. If the info you have is correct, he dies the next year (perhaps in the war?).
Maude Weber, Emily's child out of wedlock by James Weber, goes on to marry August Kurz as you have noted and they have four children (there was a fifth who died in infancy). If you want information on them let me know. Maude and August Kurz were my paternal grandparents and my father was their second child.
