Victor Berger, Jr., 82, of Bethlehem Township, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, in St. Lukes Hospital. He was the husband of Elsie (Romig) Berger. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last June. Born in Miriam, Pa., he was a son of the late Victor Sr. and Bertha (Chato) Berger. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he played the trumpet in the Army band. He graduated from Moravian College, and began his teaching career in the special education field. He later taught social studies at South Mountain Jr. High School, Allentown, for 23 years before retiring in 1990. Victor was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Township. He played both trumpet and bass in several local dance bands. In his spare time, he and his family relocated nine houses from the path of I-78. He and his wife enjoyed travelling around the country in their motor home.
Survivors: Surviving with his wife, Elsie, are a son, Victor Berger, III, and his wife, Lynne of Bethlehem Township; a daughter, Bonnie Snyder, and her husband, Craig of Nazareth; a brother, Harry Berger of Allentown; and five grandchildren, Victor Berger IV, Tracy L. Berger, Kelli Gathers and her husband Harold, Kristen Ricker, and her husband, Tye, and Katie Snyder, and her fiance, Mike Bruch.
Victor Berger, Jr., was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Berger.
Services: Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem. Family and friends are invited to call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
