- [S2] Reading Eagle, p. 16, 31 May 1932.
Amityville, May 31 (Special).-Prof. Werner E. DeTurck, native of this place, formerly principal of Spring City public schools for over 15 years, died suddenly of a heart attack shortly after placing his car in the garage at his home in Erlton, N. J.
Prof. DeTurck was supervising principal of the Delaware township schools, Camden county, N. J., to which place he went in February of 1930.
Mr. and Mrs. DeTurck returned to their home Monday afternoon from Bernville, where they had visited Adam and Lizzie Bright, brother and sister of Mrs. DeTurck.
Mr. DeTruck remained in the garage for some time after placing the machine in the garage. Mrs. DeTurck became alarmed and called to him. Failing to hear any answer, she went to the garage and was shocked to find him lifeless on the floor.
Prof. DeTurck accepted the position of supervising principal at Spring City in 1914, succeeding Prof. Thomas A. Bock. He was principal of the schools at Waynesboro, Pa., for four years prior to going to Spring City, and from 1905 to 1908 was head of the department of French at State Teachers College, Kutztown. He received his A.B. degree at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, in 1905, and was awarded his master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1924.
Deceased was reared at this place. His father died about a year ago. He was a graduate of Pottstown High School, State Teachers College, Franklin and Marshall, and took special work at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. While a resident of Spring City he was a member of Spring City First Reformed Church and the Rotary Club, having been the delegate to the convention of Rotary International in Belguim about two years ago.
He is survived by his widow, Ida (Bright); one son, Eugene, radio operator aboard a merchant marine vessel now in the Panama Canal Zone, and one daughter, Evelyn, student at Juniata College, Huntingdon.
Mr. DeTurck was aged 53 years and 11 days. The funeral will be held on Thursday. Short services at the home at 12 o'clock noon. Further services and interment in St. Paul's Reformed Church and cemetery, at 3 p. m., this place.
