Caleb H. Frantz, 89, died Sept. 1 at 1:15 a.m. in his residence in Bethel Township.
He was the husband of Reta J. (Grady) Frantz.
Born in Tulpehocken Township, he was a son of the late Elias M. and Ada (Hoffer) Frantz.
Frantz was employed from September 1941 to Jan. 8, 1946 by the Civilian Public Service in Soil Conservation, Forest Service and in the Castaner Hospital, Puerto Rico.
At the close of World War II, he taught four years in the public schools in Castaner. Frantz taught in Pennsylvania public schools for 25 years, retiring in 1982.
Frantz was a 1933 graduate of Myerstown High School and was a 1941 graduate of Manchester College with a bachelor's degree in music. He was a 1952 graduate of George Washington University, Washington, D.C., with a master's degree in secondary education. He also attended the Bethany Biblical Seminary, Chicago, from 1936 to 1939.
He was a member of the Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, Rehrersburg, where he was a choir member, deacon, chaired various committees and taught Daily Vacation Bible School and church school classes.
Frantz is also survived by a daughter, Aida F. (Frantz) Behler, Deer Lake, Schuylkill County; and three sons: Irvic G., Frisco, Texas; Elman G., Chapel Hill, N.C.; and John D., Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Other survivors include two brothers, Irwin Frantz, Bethel, and Victor Frantz, Fort Worth, Texas; and a stepbrother, Elmer Reber, Palmyra, Lebanon County.
There are also eight grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Little Swatara Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
