Sydney Augustus Reber, 92, of Topton, died November 10, 2012 in The Lutheran Home at Topton in Longswamp Township.
He was the husband of Jeanne Frieda (Hunter) Reber, who died January 20, 2011.
Born October 27, 1920 in Laureldale, he was a son of the late George Jonathan and Minnie Charlotte (Homan) Reber.
Sydney was a 1939 graduate of Muhlenberg Township High School.
He was employed as a printer with Met-Ed Company for 17 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he was employed with George D. Barbey Electronics for 20 years.
Sydney served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe as a tech sergeant in the 80th Division.
He was a life member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, where he served on church council as well as various other committees.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Chandler Lodge #227 since November 24, 1976.
Sydney enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
Along with his wife, Jeanne, he was an avid traveler, having traveled to all 50 states in addition to Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, the United Kingdom and taking a European tour.
Surviving are his two sons: Sherwood A., husband of Wileen J. (Ziegler) Reber of Temple, and Kerwin S., husband of Susan J. (Riegel) Reber of Schwenksville, Montgomery County.
Also surviving is his sister, Annabelle R. (Reber), wife of Glenn Bortz of Bern Township.
There are three grand-children, three step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two step-great-grandchildren.
Sydney was predeceased by his four siblings: Dwight E. Reber, Stephen G. Reber, Ruth (Reber) Large and Emily (Reber) George.
Services will be Monday, November 19th, at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:30-8:00 and Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be at Laureldale Cemetery.
