Irvin L. Ketner, 84, of Country Meadows, Wyomissing, and formerly of Hamburg, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, in Berks Heim. He was the husband of Grace M. (Wisser) Ketner. They were married on August 7, 1954, and celebrated sixty-four years of marriage.
Born in Perry Twp., he was the son of the late Luther W. and Ida M. (Wink) Ketner. Irvin was a 1952 graduate of Perry High School. He worked for thirty-five years for Acme Markets and last worked at West Side Wood Products for eight years.
Irvin was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perry Twp., where he was a former member of church council, a member of the pastoral care team and helped to take care of the grounds. He was a former member and president of the Exchange Club of Hamburg, member of the Hamburg Senior Citizens and a former driver for the Hamburg Community Ambulance.
Irvin was very successful in finding four-leaf clovers. He would search for the clovers before his grandchildren's activities and give them to them. Irvin enjoyed bowling, going to Penn State football games and Phillies games, playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid country line dancer. He was known for his one-liners and sense of humor, and would make people laugh when he would speak Pennsylvania Dutch to them. Irvin especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: David L. Ketner, Wyomissing; Linda L. (Ketner) Reinhart, Wyomissing; and Julianne L. (Ketner), wife of Darrell Kohler, Leesport; four grandchildren: Melissa (Reinhart), wife of Michael Gruber, Jonestown; Bradley Reinhart and his wife, Jenelle, Shoemakersville; Valerie (Kohler), wife of Spencer Hancik, Ephrata; and Emily Kohler, companion of Brenden James, Bernville; two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Irvin is also survived by one sister, Florence Schappell, Fleetwood. He was predeceased by a brother, Amos Ketner; and two sisters, Edith Wessner and Lillian Schlegel.
Irvin's family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Berks Heim for their care of Irvin.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., 223 Peach St., Leesport. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
