Mabel A. Smith, 93, formerly of Shoemakersville, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, in the Laurel Center, Tilden Township, where she was since Sept. 1.
Her husband, Curtis H. Smith, died Dec. 19, 1965.
Born in Greenwich Township, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Katie (George) Herber.
She was the owner and operator of Mabel's Beauty Shop, Main Street, Shoemakersville, for 55 years until her retirement.
Mabel was a member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle.
She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Shoemakersville Fire Company, Kutztown Fire Company and Union Fire Company, Hamburg, and their beneficial associations.
Surviving are a son, Howard G., husband of Linda D. (Epting) Smith, Hamburg, with whom she last resided; and a daughter, Betty A. (Smith), wife of James P. Youndt, West Wyomissing.
There are also five grandchildren: Jeffrey H., husband of Vicki L. (Horton) Smith; Bradley T., husband of Julie A. (Rittle) Smith; Ty M. Smith; Nicole R. (Youndt), wife of Keith M. Ulle; and Beth A. (Youndt), wife of John Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren: Ryan, Emily, Kamryn, Addisyn, Sawyer, Chase, Brooke, Sara and J.T.
Mabel was the last survivor of her 12 siblings.
Services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., 65 S. Fourth St., Hamburg (off-street parking in rear), with the Rev. Randy A. Bond officiating. Burial will be in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions may be sent to Heartland Hospice, 4 Park Plaza, Wyomissing, PA 19610, or Zion's Church Memorial Fund, 770 Zion's Church Road, Hamburg, PA 19526.
