former Girl Scout leader
Violet Filbert Edwards, 81, of Oxford, Pa., a former Brookhaven Girl Scout leader, died Dec. 2 at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford.
Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Edwards had lived in Brookhaven for many years. Later, she lived in New London and Knoxville, Pa., before moving to Oxford.
She was employed 10 years on the assembly line at the General Electric Co. site in Southwest Philadelphia. Mrs. Edward served as a Girl Scout leader in Brookhaven for a number of years and was a Boy Scout commissioner in New London, Pa. She also was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and belonged to Yoked Church, Knoxville.
Widow of Edmund ""Webbie'' Edwards, who died in February 1994, she is survived by a son, E. Webster ""Webbie'' Edwards Jr. of West Grove; four daughters, Georgianna Gatewood of Knoxville, Sue Ellen Shivery of Aston, Dorothy E. Davis of Pensacola, Fla., and Carole E. Edgington of Lincoln University, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at James M. Brower Funeral Home, 908 S. Providence Road, Wallingford, where a calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Burial is in Edgewood Memorial Park, Concord.
