Harold Fetter Grim, 98, retired chairman of the biology department at Lincoln University in Chester County, died Sunday in the Oxford Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Grim started teaching at Lincoln University in 1912, retiring after nearly five decades, in 1961, as a longtime department chairman. In 1973, he was honored by the university, which renamed the newly renovated life science building in his honor.
In hours off campus, Mr. Grim was an avid sports fan, who participated in sports in his early years and enjoyed fishing along the Delaware Bay.
He graduated from Kutztown State College in 1908 and from Lafayette College in 1912. He earned a master's degree with honors from the University of Chicago in 1928. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Lincoln University.
He was the husband of Mabel Nester Grim, who died in June 1986.
Survivors: daughters, June G. Renville, Elizabeth G. Louis and Helen G. Baker; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter, and a sister.
Services: viewing, 7 p.m. today and 1 p.m. tomorrow, with services at 2 p.m., Edward L. Collins Funeral Home, 86 Pine St., Oxford. Interment at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford.
