He was a prominent citizen of Richmond Township, owning 325 acres of the best land in the locality. He was a true friend of the poor, having at the time of his death a number of tenant houses on his farm. In which lived the needy whom he helped to support both as an individual and as an overseer of the poor of Berks County. His funeral was a large one and was largely attended by the people of the community, especially by those to whom he had been a life long friend and benefactor.
An index to baptismal records on file in the Berks County Historical Society shows John with a date (baptismal) of Feb. 19, 1783. His gravestone gives a birth year of 1786. The index lists his parents as George and Catharine so we have the right person. It also lists Johannes and Margaret (his grandparents) as sponsors.
After John's father, George, died in 1807 John apparently farmed George's land - the 270 acres in Richmond Township that George had been given by his father, Johannes (ID-0001). It is reasonable to believe that John was scheduled to receive this land but only after Geroge's widow, Catharine, passed on. John is buried to the left of his mother, Catharina Weidenhammer (nee Herbracker)
