Elmer Shirk, Jr., 86, of Denver, PA, passed away April 11, 2017, in his residence. He was the husband of Grace M. (Galvin) Shirk. Born in East Earl Township, he was the son of the late Elmer S. and Susanna (Wenger) Shirk.
Elmer was a proud Army Veteran who served in the United States Army from 1956-1962. He was employed as a metallurgist for over 23 years at Heyco, Inc., in Leesport, until his retirement in 1996.
In addition to his wife, Elmer is survived by one daughter: Cindy Dianne, wife of Edward Schmeltz, Exeter Twp.; a brother Raymond L. Shirk, Bernville; a sister: Salinda J. Wagner, Bernville; and four grandchildren: Bryan S. Miller, Jeremy R., Daniel, and Benjamen Loos. Five great grandchildren, Desiree, Logan, Michael, Cameron, and Breslen also survive him.
Elmer was predeceased by his siblings, Lester, Lloyd W., Samuel R., Clarence Paul and Nancy Jean Eisenhower. Elmer was a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 17, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
