William N. Dornhecker, Sr., 87, passed away at his home on June 17, 2011, in Abington, PA. Born May 2, 1925, he was the son of Otto H. Dornhecker and Edith (Unger) Heltzinger.
William was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1943. He served as a Seabee in the US Navy during World War II in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater.
Upon returning from the war, William began working in the dry cleaning business. He later moved to Abington and began working for Triangle Cleaners in Jenkintown, PA, where he was the manager for 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was a lifetime member of the North Penn VFW.
William was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Gladys A. (Geesey) Dornhecker, who died in 2008.
He is survived by his son, William Dornhecker, Jr., husband of Sharon Dornhecker of Glenside, PA; two grandchildren, William Dornhecker, of Philadelphia, PA, Christine (Dornhecker) Metzger and her husband Tom Metzger, of Sellersville, PA; and one great grandchild, Matt Metzger.
Memorial services will be held at the Theo C. Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, PA, Wednesday at 11 AM. Inurnment will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
