Lucille Anita (Hiester) Brooke, 80, went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2019. Born October 17, 1938, in Reading, Pa., to Paul and Verna C. (Boyer) Hiester.
Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Harry L. Brooke, on February 4, 2012; and her daughter, Kathleen Marie Billy, on June 10, 2012. Lucy is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Reading High School in 1956, Lucy was a member of the A Capella choir. She worked for many years at Jackson Rope Corp., C.H. Briggs Hardware, Godiva Chocolatier, AWI Wholesale, last working at HMG Reading until her retirement. Lucy enjoyed training her Great Danes in obedience, tracking and the breed ring. Together they visited many nursing homes and hospitals doing therapy work. She was also actively involved in training obedience dogs with the Berks County Dog Training Club. Then she developed a love for the scrollsaw and the lathe. Woodworking became a part of her life. Very involved in Scrollsaw Association of the World, she organized several local and international events for this group. Lucille filled the rest of her time in the flower garden, maybe a few vegetables, sewing and needle crafts of all kinds, making jewelry with beads turned on the lathe and objects cut on the scrollsaw and playing with her "N" gauge train yard installed in a coffee table. For relaxation, she could be found playing a keyboard and singing along. She also enjoyed attending and serving her church, Calvary Baptist Church of Reading. In addition to her memberships of the Berks County Dog Training and Scrollsaw Association of the World, she also belonged to the Penn-Jersey Scrollers, Tri-County Scrollers and the American Association of Woodturners.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. from Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., One E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington. Pastor Russell E. Weidel will officiate. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Twp.
