Nole Edward Beerbower, Sr., age 85, a resident of Ft. Scott, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan.
He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of John Henry Beerbower and Ivy Myrtle Key Beerbower. Nole had served with the United States Navy during World War II. He married Marvel J. Pettibon on Nov. 18, 1960, at Ft. Scott, Kan. In his earlier years, Nole worked for Borden's Condensory. He later worked for the Water Department for the City of Fort Scott and then as a custodian at Eugene Ware Elementary School. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Mirza Temple and was also a life member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as attending classic car shows and driving in area parades. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle.
Survivors include his wife, Marvel, of the home; his children, Nole Edward "Eddie" Beerbower, Jr., and wife, Brenda, Pam Korinek and husband, Eldon, Gil Beerbower and wife, Lana, and Todd Beerbower and wife, Sherry, all of Fort Scott; four grandchildren, Andrew Korinek and wife, Susan, Wendy Saldivar and husband John, Ryan Beerbower and Austin Beerbower, and two great-granddaughters, Kyla Korinek and Lily Saldivar. Also surviving is a brother, Earl Beerbower and wife, Sherry , of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mable Dodson, Lillie B. Wallace, and Lela Uptegrove, and six brothers, Clyde, Cecil, Clarence, Albert, Lawrence and Carl Beerbower.
Rev. Mark Stetler will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials are suggested to the Sharing Bucket and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
