Maria M. Burkholder, 82, formerly of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, currently of Dundee, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 5, 2011 in the comfort of the home of her sister Mrs. Aaron (Ada) Zimmerman.
Miss Burkholder was born March 29, 1929 in Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, Pa., the daughter of Paul Z. and Annie B. Martin Burkholder. Maria was a renowned self-employed seamstress, specializing in quilts and woman's coverings when she lived in Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Old Order Martindale Mennonite Church.
Having never married, she was still blessed with a large loving family who loved and will dearly miss her. She leaves three brothers, George M. Burkholder of Shippensburg, Pa., Paul M. (Elizabeth) Burkholder of Berks Co., Pa., Jonas M. (Bertha) Burkholder of Potter; three sisters Lizzie M., wife of Weaver Leid of Ephrata, Pa., Ada M. (Aaron) Zimmerman, with whom she currently made her home, Susanna M., wife of Ben Shirk of Benton; and countless nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by a little brother, Ezra, and a younger sister, Annie, as well as, two brothers, Menno M. and his wife Ruth Burkholder, Isaac M. and his wife Emma Burkholder, a sister, Minnie M. Hoover, and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth, wife of George Burk-holder.
Friends were invited to call at the family home 2382 State Rte. 230 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 7. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at the Gravel Run Mennonite Church, Ray Crosby Rd., Dundee, NY, and at the Old Order Martin-dale Mennonite Church at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 9; with burial in the Martindale Mennonite Cemetery, Martindale, Pennsylvania.
